Spring is a time for change

Michelle is stepping down from our business partnership to be with her family.

Michelle's decision to take a step back from business operations is something we support her in greatly. She is going to be due with her 3rd child in May! I support her in seeing her and her family grow the way she feels is best and I am ecstatic for her! This has been a consistent converstaion between Michelle and I since the start. She shared from the beginning how she wanted to be a mother and that her and her husband had been trying for some time. December of 2021, Michelle finally becomes a mother to twins, Ela and Luca. They are so precious, smart, spunky, and just wonderful humans already. They are going to be wildly  talented people, just like Michelle and her entire family!

It has been an honor to become business partners with Michelle during the time we were. She helped streamline a ton of the behind the scenes work at Trellis Marketplace. Michelle's understanding of our elevated visions' of branding, style/ curation, co-creation and collaboration really propelled us forward with refreshing momentum. Some of my absolute favorite days were days working along side her!

I welcome this new chapter for myself and the shop. Trellis Marketplace is a place to support growth and promote positive change. It would never want to be a place that holds someone back, or keeps someone from following their passions. I grew as a business owner because of Michelle and I am grateful for the experiences we’ve shared. She's an incredibly talented person and our team is sad to see her go. We are refreshed with the support that she has given us. I will post Michelle’s resignation letter below! Help us wish Michelle all the best!! We love you, Michelle!

- Charley + Team

A letter from Michelle,

My time at Trellis Marketplace started in September 2019, as a vendor at the Fall Festival Pop-Up Market. Over the next year, Shellbird Studio became a Trellis vendor, I took on some responsibilities at the shop, and learned the ins-and-outs of working at the shop. Charley and I worked so well together that this naturally evolved into an official partnership; Charley and I officially formed Trellis Marketplace Collective LLC in May of 2020.

While I was beginning this professional journey, my personal life was in a state of upheaval: the same month I became a vendor, I began fertility treatment in the hopes of expanding my family. I was working hard to get my mental health on track, so I had been out of consistent work for some time. With all of the unknowns in my life, I needed a sense of purpose and belonging. As it turns out, Trellis Marketplace was exactly where I needed to be.

I have always thrived in places where I can make a difference, improve things, and solve problems, and Trellis gave me the opportunity to use all of my skills to help the business succeed. Trellis has always been a project of opportunity, growth, and creativity—not just for me, but for so many local business owners, artists, makers, and creators. It is a wonderful feeling to be a part of something that has real value to the community, and I am eternally grateful to Charley for trusting me to join her in it.

I always intended  to be a part of Trellis for the long haul; of course, life never happens the way you think it will. Right around the time that Charley and I formed our partnership (and during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic in May 2020), I became pregnant with my twins, Ela and Luca. And in May of this year, we will be welcoming another child into my family.

While we are so excited about this, it is obvious that our family has grown very quickly. I will soon become the main caretaker of 3 children under the age of 2. In order for me to take care of my family and be a more present mother to my children, I have made the difficult decision to resign from my position at Trellis Marketplace. I have already taken many steps back in my responsibilities to accommodate my family so far, and Charley has risen to the challenge of taking on so much more work. I want her to have full control over the direction and management of Trellis Marketplace. I am so grateful for Charley’s support in this. She is one of the most persevering, hard-working, creative people I have the pleasure of knowing, and Trellis is still, as it always has been under her leadership, in very capable hands.

Over the next couple of weeks, I will be working on transitioning my responsibilities to Charley. She has already taken on payroll and communications, and I hope you will all meet this transition with patience and understanding as Charley adapts to these changes. In the next week or two I will also be announcing this publicly. I will miss working with all you so incredibly much. Trellis Marketplace has made my life full of meaning and purpose for the last two and a half years; I hope it can do the same for all of you. And while I won't be actively involved in the day-to-day operations, I will still be cheering you on from the sidelines, both as a customer and friend.

Thank you all for being a part of Trellis Marketplace.

Reviewing 2021…

This year felt like it was some BS, I can tell you that much! As I reflect on this past year, it is hard to ignore how put-through-the-ringer I feel as 2021 comes to a close. A lot of folks that I have connected with are sharing in similar feelings.

It has been near impossible and super stressful to deal with limited resources including time, energy, when all of the demands remain so high. It really felt like this year just did not let up at all.

The original vision for Trellis Marketplace has kept me tethered through the storm of the pandemic and some of it’s lasting negative effects. My mother was someone who just wanted peace in their home, and the freedom to express it in a beautiful and easy way.

My mom and her business partner started Trellis Marketplace to ensure that the local shoppers could have access to purchase the best curated, most unique, and beautiful home decor, art, vintage, and gifts. Also, so that talented artisans may have a chance to sell their items and create revenue to fund their creative passions, all at reasonable costs.

Handcrafted mugs by mothers who want to send their children to school! Found in our Trade Faire area of the shop.

Collaboration has always been at the core of what we do here at Trellis Marketplace and I want to thank all of my amazing vendors and partners for being outstanding collaborators with our marketplace, and for helping keep our vision sharp. My mom wanted it to be easy to find peace in her home and in her community through art/ curation and creative business expression. I intend to carry on her vision and continue to translate peace through style, curation, community, and craftsmanship in our retail space. Despite the madness of the past years, we demand to be an extension of peace and creativity in this hyper evolving world, each and every day! I look forward to seeing what 2022 has in store for us all.

See you next year!

Winter Open House Weekend

Working with many artisans, makers, and curators, it is helpful to have a very clear launch to the season.

“Why not welcome the holidays with a three day event extravaganza?!” is what we thought while preparing for our Winter Open House Weekend!

The holiday shopping season is always the most intense for small business owners, makers, and creative hustlers of any kind. This year has been especially wild with the high demand of most goods.

We wanted to BRING IT! Free gifts, giveaways, the cutest ‘lil coffee cart in the world, and NEW VENDORS are just a few of the amazing details for this weekend. My Peruvian Treasures, Sarcasm and Sunshine Designs Co., and The Cozy Creator joined our marketplace just in the nick of time for our grand event!

Friday and Saturday morning the scent of Hitch Coffee filled the air. Supplying delicious artisan coffee drinks, these professional baristas mean business! Their presence was amazing and was a huge saving-grace for this event.

Donald and Jillian, passionate about great coffee, recently began their coffee truck journey. We quickly fell in love with their business and were thrilled when they wanted to post up outside for the Winter Open House weekend. We loved being able to sip on something good alllll day long, especially with it being a bit drizzly and dreary. “We know what it’s like, smelling that aroma of freshly brewed beans. It may take you back to a memory or make you jump for joy. We’re here for it either way!” - Jill Leipert

We enjoy event weekends for numerous reasons, the biggest being able to nurture old and new relationships.

Running large events gives us many opportunities to share with other makers and creators.

Gallery Wall Artist

Designs by Allie Reilly takes over our gallery wall!

We love Allie’s punch that she brings to our marketplace. We believe in allowing freedom of speech and expression and we are always encouraging artisans to elevate themselves in our collaborative space. Her work is a different pace and we like that. Allie is our featured artisan for many reasons, but especially for her ability to bring a smile to the face of so many different types of customers is pure magic!

Now that the holiday season is in full swing, come cross some items off that gift list by shopping with our local makers.

Trends start at Trellis Marketplace!

Harvest Festival Pop Up Shop

October 16th, 2021 we had the opportunity to host our 3rd Annual Harvest Festival Pop Up Shop event. This will be our second harvest themed event, third overall pop up experience. The talented vendors that came together for this event were absolutely incredible! We enjoy hosting pop up shop events throughout the year to broaden our connection with local artisans and to push ourselves creatively! It is a true honor to work with these talented makers. They were super fun and flexible to work with on this special event.

Everything from knot pillows and handcrafted jewelry, to vintage decor and amazing live music, we had a little bit of everything during this feel good Harvest Festival! Our food truck vendor, Rogue Chef Food Truck never fails to bring something absolutely tasty to the table. This day was MAJOR for us, so many wonderful customers, old and new. We have much gratitude for our local news paper for writing up an incredible article on us! It was an honor to be published “above the fold”on the front page of The Merchandiser. Check it out!

We enjoy hosting our own pop up shop events, extending our hand to other local creators, and collaborating with the community together over our special selection of talented local artisans and vendors.

Our next event is our Holiday Open House! You can expect THREE days of give-a-ways, prizes, and shiny new holiday merchandise. Make sure you check up on the information below.

Elizabethtown, PA is FULL of amazing talent, heart, and soul when it comes to the local creators, makers, collectors and curators. Trellis Marketplace Collective is about bringing that all together with a refined style cohesion and helpful customer service. Come visit one of our events next time you’re in sweet ‘lil E-town.

All of our graphic design, lettering, and calligraphy was artfully designed by Katie Will.

Gratitude and Glass Werks

This year has been a WILD one, needless to say! Yesterday as we celebrated Thanksgiving, I got to review what I am grateful for during 2020. The first thing that came to mind was the out-pouring of local support from the Elizabethtown, PA community! Shoppers in our community made sure that we were going to make it through this pandemic by connecting with us on social media & shopping virtually. Their continual support allowed us to keep growing opportunities, working with hand-crafted artisans to bring variety to the local shopping scene. We have established a lovely give-and-take with our makers and shoppers, by trying our best to provide only the most unique gifts, home decor, and so much more!

Glass Werks

A new artisan, using an ancient art form to create stunning new designs!

Glass Werks is just one of the many new makers that partnered with us this holiday season! We are obsessed with their stunning spin on stain glass design works!

Gift Art, Wear Art!

Glass Werks Studio creaties unique and one of a kind designs! Share with someone how special they are by gifting something 100% genuine!

Despite the intensity of this year, something that we keep coming back to is a creative process! Losing yourself entirely in the process of creating something; Creating art, a home, a meal, anything, will always be what the soul needs! We are so grateful to be a collaborative home for the creators who need inspiration during trying times.

We will forever be inspired by this talented artisan!

We will forever be inspired by this talented artisan!

What's on my desk?

Since I started working from home to help manage online sales for Trellis, I’ve grown very accustomed to having certain items on my desk at all times. This post is exactly what it sounds like- a photo/list series of the stuff that’s on my desk!

The Necessities

EF572D2B-8FF8-421E-AEE9-43B22B4DCC73_1_201_a.jpeg

The basic things I rely on.

  • Full Apple keyboard- I enjoy low profile keys. (Do you like my SPACE-bar sticker??)

  • Apple trackpad

  • Over-ear B&O headphones- amazing sound quality, over-ear design helps not bother my spouse who shares this office. Bandana wrapped around the top because I have a tiny head and it helps keep the ear cups at the right spot.

  • Not pictured: iMac computer

  • Pictured, but not obvious: Wool desk mat, by Woolly Clouds on Etsy

The Extra

ACCDC247-2F6C-4365-AA05-F5CF4EBFCB0B_1_201_a.jpeg

The things I could definitely live without, but I really like having.

  • Logitech Bluetooth keyboard, because typing on an iPad screen sucks. (note additional Space-bar sticker)

  • iPad stand that matches my iMac- great for non-office FaceTime meetings.

  • iPad Pro

  • Pentax K-50 camera, which I mostly use for night sky photography.

The Fun Stuff

F2BC383F-F087-4832-AC85-15C859201529_1_201_a.jpg

I really don’t need this stuff, but a lot of it is helpful and the rest of it is fun.

  • Ugmonk Gather desk organizer, because I want things to look good.

  • Little wooden handmade bowl, a gift from my sister.

  • Sticky notes the go in the right side of the organizer.

  • Moonstone pen, cute pen, mechanical pencil.

  • Apple Pencil- super useful for designing and Shellbird Studio drafting.

  • Apple attachments, and a little capsule of rosin for my bird call keychain.

  • Le Thiers knife with birch handle, carbon steel blade, and corkscrew, from Le Sabot.

  • Bobby pin, because they’re everywhere in my house.

  • Two adorable unicorns, courtesy of Sage Space!

  • Twilight Princess Zelda

  • Lip Balm from Kairos in Etown- you can buy this here!

  • Eraser, because I always tear through the ones on the pencils.

  • Glasses- I should be wearing these now, but you know I’m not.

Do I really need these?

443581B4-F69B-45C8-AC5F-E32761CA0CC4_1_201_a.jpeg

No, but I like them.

  • Cactuses from a local greenhouse

  • Jar of water (okay I DO need this one).

  • External hard drive- we take a LOT of photos at Trellis

  • Clips, paperclips and thumbtacks, but cute!

  • Cool Geode Coasters, from Knock Knock Boutique in Etown.

The Relaxing

A7CF9D39-6237-48E8-BC44-91DF3461F88D_1_201_a.jpeg

Everyone has to keep their sanity somehow.

  • Mini Polar Seltzer, because I can’t finish a big girl size.

  • Box of matches, from Trellis

  • P.F. Candle Co. candle, my favorite candle maker.

  • Polymer sand box, a cool gift from my mom that helps me find some chill.

The Notebooks

IMG_0924.jpeg

Old habits die hard; I still really like writing on paper.

  • Rhodia notebooks: one unlined, one lined, and one graph paper.

  • A natural, refillable leather notebook from Rustico- I really like the natural leather because it gives you the opportunity to really get that patina going.

Tea Time

Recently, I’ve been experiencing a lot more screen time. I’ve been working from home for over a month now, and I have sometimes found myself feeling restless and defeated from the constant self-made checklist of work that needs to be done (to which I am always adding more). I’ve been feeling the need to add something relaxing to my day during those times when I feel most buried in my work. It’s time to take control by doing something proactive and restorative; a small aside from work, to bring myself back into the present moment.

Today I started a ritual of afternoon tea, which I intend to do every work day around 4 pm. My objective is to use this time disconnect for a short while, relearn a bit of mindfulness I feel I have been neglecting, remind myself that life is not a checklist, and simply enjoy some tea. If you have been feeling similarly, why not have some tea time yourself?

Today’s tea: Lemon Cloud Rooibos.
